Alchemist's Head by douglasverden Alchemist's Head by douglasverden
Ballpoint pen on paper, 297 x 420 mm

"Let your disturbed mind enter in a decomposition state and then become another thing."

Behind his damaged image
Surrounded by the decomposition smell
The crystals are hidden
Executing the power of transformation
The death wings hover
Black moth of the infinite metamorphoses
Playing the game of life
This is their burden, their fate, their destiny

Wow, the movement of the smokelike curls is so delicate you can almost feel it. It's really expressive how the bony structure grows out of its natural bounds just as the spirit seems barely attached to the dissociating entity.

Hey Kuume, thanks for your nice comment!
Yeah... Maybe there was a spectrum near me while I was drawing this thing. Who knows? :P
I frequently ask myself what is the genesis of all this artworks in this condemned orb...

Well, it depends what you believe in. I believe creation comes from the subconscious, which is in connection to a larger energetic whole.

We totally agree about this: all this stuff comes from the unknown dark place (not good or evil, just like you say, a larger energetic whole).
But there's so many things in the process that we lose frequently the impression of these visions birth. All connections between all and everybody may to create an blurred perception.
In the practical world it creates confusion and than we lost something that we know before. Is it a bit confuse? Sorry about this! XD

Are you saying something along the lines that the creative process cannot really be understood, because it's so complex? And that creative thinking is hard to reconcile with the everyday world?

Yes it's something like this Kuume. We try to understand everything and theorize about al things but in the end, when we working in creative ways, these explanations are insufficient. Well, at least for me XD
It's not necessarily a mystical thought just a missing feeling about what some books and people say this process.

Wow, can you believe that I had not saw the crystals? This is something that I love in this kind of drawing technic: there are many discoveries to do, even passing many weeks or months ago. Thank you for your visit and welcome!
